nintendo clutch

nintendo clutchLooking for that perfect bag to go along with the Little Black Dress? This clutch is a replica of the original Nintendo controller and conjures up warm memories of all those hours we you spent playing "Ninja Gaiden" when you should have been playing outside. 6" high by 7" wide, so there's enough room for lip gloss, ID, credit cards, and some of those gold coins you collected while saving the Princess.

you're still hip ... i promise

band_sm.jpgConfession: I (Kate) like to pretend I'm cool, but the fact of the matter is that my inclination to pay attention to any sort of music "scene" waned in approximately 1996. If you also consider REM's "Automatic for the People" to be their "new album," maybe this button is for you. It conveys the sarcasm and irony so prevalent in the halcyon days when the Red Hot Chili Peppers had some spunk without revealing that you haven't actually updated your CD collection since before Bono's hairline began to recede.

gently take your skull for a ride

skullring_sm.jpgIf you've lived in Northeast Ohio, you've seen artist Derek Hess' artwork on the cover of the Free Times. If you've never lived in Northeast Ohio (and why WOULDN'T you??), maybe you just need an awesome ring. Nothing says "don't mess with me" like a silver ring in the shape of a human skull. Agreed? Bueller? Bueller? Ahem.

go with the flo

flo_sm.jpgYes, this contraption is technically intended for kids, but grown-ups take baths, too. Washing your hair in the tub isn't easy. How many times have you cracked your head on the faucet? This gadget attaches directly to the spout and tranforms the usual straight-line water flow into a sloping waterfall for all your rinsing needs. It also includes a bubble bath chamber with convenient dispenser button for when the suds run low. See it in action here.

liberate your torso

travelon.jpgWe went to a party a few weeks ago and didn't know most of the other guests. Nearly all the women in attendance had purses. Small purses. Small, banana-shaped purses with short straps that hung from their shoulders, nestled awkwardly in their armpits, requiring adjustment every 30 seconds. I wanted very badly to leap onto the dining room table, my Travelon bag held aloft, and yell, "Women! Purses can be comfortable! Free your armpits! Be able to use BOTH arms!" This shoulder bag is extremely roomy and durable (I cannot tell you how much mine has been abused) and has an extra-long, adjustable strap, so you can wear it crisscross and have your hands free. Also, the little cell phone holder at the top means you never have to go rummaging through your stuff when you get a call. Check out the rest of Travelon's stuff, too.

at.jpgis through her e-mail. We all know and love the "@" symbol, and here's the perfect way to show your affection for both people and machines. The 18-inch silver-plated chain is adorned with a plastic "@" along with a tiny heart. Cute, affordable, and all indie ... made for you by a fellow geek girl.

mmmmm ... candy

candy_bag.jpgIf you ever feel a twinge of remorse when you ball up a gum wrapper, this bag will brighten your wardrobe and soothe your eco-guilt. Made from recycled candy wrappers, this handbag is durable and waterproof (yup, waterproof) with a zip closure. Now if someone would only figure out a way to use the three zillion empty Cheetos packets that passers-by fling into my yard.

bag drag

drag_bagMany geek girls travel a lot for work, and if there's an airplane and a layover involved, having a laptop with you is essential. As much as we love our cute sling bags in pretty colors, we realized pretty quickly that when you have ten minutes to get from Concourse A to Concourse D in ATL (a distance of approximately 3,000 miles), having a 20-pound bag hanging from your neck sorta sucks. Happily, laptop bags now come in wheeled-luggage variety, and now they're pretty to boot. Now you can look chic while you lay the beat-down on people who stand still on the left side of the people-mover. Available in aqua, black, pink, green, red, and sand.

Yes, yes, 'tis the season for polar fleece to keep the chill off the neck. But let me ask you this? Would you wear a fleecy scarf to a party? Can your trusty, warm scarf double as an accessory? I didn't think so. This scarf, which matches our "Glam as Hell" kneesocks, is 100% acrylic, so you'll still be warm. Warm and fabulous for only $5.95 + shipping.

wARMers, or else

armwarmer

The other night, we were sitting around minding our own business, and there was a knock at the door. Opening it, we were shocked to discover a large armwarmer standing on our porch looking very angry. It went on to tell us that SmartLassy is discriminating against products that warm the arms. "Look at all the scarves," it said. "And don't even get me started on the socks and legwarmers." We agreed, under duress, to try to equal things out around here. With that said, we bring you blue armwarmers that are sparkly and lovely and whose presence on this site will prevent a discrimination suit or any more late-night visits by giant, angry apparel. 70% acrylic, 25% nylon, 5% rubber, and yours for $6.95 + shipping.

mac love - wear it proud

"I have a PowerBook G4 and a Mac Mini, both of which have the old Power PC processors, which is why I'm probably not going to upgrade to CS3 because Adobe optimized it for the new Intel processors. I just upgraded to Leopard, but I haven't set up Time Machine yet, and I really don't get this 'stacking' thing, so I might make a trip to the Genius Bar for a few pointers."

Did you understand any of that? If the answer is yes, you should buy this button. If you didn't understand it, you can still buy the pin, but just so no one thinks you're a poser, if anyone ever comes up to you and starts blathering Mac-speak, just roll your eyes and say, "Yeah, but remember OS9? And the G4 Cube? Gawd!" These quality pinback buttons measure 1.25" in diameter, and we'll trade you $1.95 for one, plus $1 shipping.

beware of bunny rabbit

As those guys from Monty Python's Holy Grail would tell you, there are some bunnies just not worth messing with. I wouldn't want to mess with Death Bunny, and especially not the lovely SmartLassy wearing this scarf. It's warm, it's black and pink, it's 100% acrylic, and it's utterly nonsensical, which is a trait we enjoy around here. Death Bunny scarf costs $6.95 + shipping.

pretty (and wARM) in pink

In order to once again appease the armwarmer mafia (they are such bullies benevolent, generous beings), we have for your shopping pleasure a pair of lovely pink armwarmers. They're just like the blue ones we featured a few days ago, except, y'know, pink. They're made of 70% acrylic, 25% nylon, and 5% rubber. They'll set you back $6.95 + shipping, but you'll have the most sparkly, popular forearms in all the land. Promise.

magic mushrooms

No, not that kind of magic mushrooms. Are you kidding? SmartLassy does not want to end up in the pokey. These little trinkets are sparkly and festive and will brighten up any room. Hang them from the ceiling, wrap one around your rearview mirror, dress up the underside of some shelving, or tie a few to your dog's collar to give him or her that bling they've been craving. Wait. Nix that last one. I was just kidding about that, so please don't email me and yell about animal cruelty. KIDDING. They measure 2.5" in height, include a gold-colored loop for easy hang-upping, and are available in 6 happy colors. $2.25 plus shipping.

there is no song for this thong

If you live in colder climes the way we do, the idea of adorning your feet might seem a little silly. After all, you've been wearing socks since October. Remember, though, that sandal and barefoot season is only a few months away, and who says your feet can't look pretty when you're warm at home? And as for you SmartLassies who live in places warm enough to wear these now, we'll set aside our jealousy and hope these colorful, beaded foot thongs will make you look as gorgeous as we know you are. $4.75 each in your choice of 7 styles .
